Beijing July. 12th morning-- The China National Space Administration held a ceremony to distribute the first batch of lunar scientific research samples for the Chang'e-5 mission, marking the official launch of the lunar sample scientific research. A total of 17.4764g of lunar scientific research samples were issued this time, accounting for about 1% of all lunar soil samples collected by Chang'e 5, and 31 applications will be issued to 13 scientific research institutions. The project of "lunar soil physical properties research and comprehensive utilization" jointly applied by NIMTE, Xuesen Qian Laboratory of Chinese Academy of Space Technology, Institute of Physics (CAS), Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory and Nanjing University has been approved with a total of 8 grams of samples, accounting for about half of the total amount issued this time. NIMTE is expected to use 1-2 grams of lunar soil samples.
Beijing July. 12th afternoon-- At the Xuesen Qian Laboratory of the "Moon Building" of the Chinese Academy of Space Technology, the project team held a brief and warm ceremony to receive the first batch of lunar scientific research samples and launch the research work. Professor Jun-Qiang Wang, Juntao Huo and Associate Professor Wei Xu of the Key Laboratory of Magnetic Materials and Devices of NIMTE, CAS attended the launching ceremony with excitement. Non-crystalline Functional Materials Group in the Key Laboratory of Magnetic Materials and Devices of NIMTE, CAS will undertake the research project of "evidence exploration of lunar water, He-3 and other volatile components in lunar soil glass phase" in the project of "lunar soil physical properties research and comprehensive utilization". Nuclear magnetic resonance is an extremely effective means to detect hydrogen and He-3. This topic is mainly based on the high-temperature high-precision nuclear magnetic resonance equipment independently developed by the group and the test center platform of NIMTE. The group will rely on its outstanding research capabilities and unique equipment advantages in the physical properties of amorphous materials, through analyzing the distribution and evolution process of the H-O bond structure of the lunar soil amorphous glass phase, speculate the possibility of water on the moon, understand the geological evolution of the moon surface and the formation and evolution of the lunar soil, and explore the content and distribution of strategic resources such as He-3.
In order to ensure the successful completion of the study of lunar soil samples, NIMTE attaches great importance to it and makes careful arrangements. It will make preparations for the early arrival of the first batch of lunar soil samples in Ningbo, and strive for early, more, great and good achievements!
